Our History

In December 2009 a Music Hall entertainment was produced to celebrate the Centenary of Cononley Village Institute. Such was the enjoyment and spirit of involvement derived by the participants, that a proposal was made to form a choir or similar body to continue that spirit.

In March 2010 a leaflet invited interested people to come and around 40 people met and agreed to form The Cononley Singers, a choir of mixed voices. Rehearsals began at the New Inn, Cononley and Tony Hamilton agreed to be the Musical Director. In the first year the choir performed at Cononley Gala and gave two concerts in the Village Institute, one in the summer and one at Christmas, as well as singing Christmas Carols outside Skipton Town Hall.

The aim of The Cononley Singers is quite simple - to have fun making music and to bring that sense of enjoyment to audiences; whilst striving to achieve and maintain a high musical standard.
